Monday 9 May last of the prezis and 6th term project

We are finishing up the prezi presentations today and then moving onto to the final project, taking a look at a couple of actual evening broadcasts.

If you are absent, please check out one of the full broadcasts of the Nightly News with Brian Williams: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032619/ns/nightly_news/

Watch the whole show, noting the various topics. Does he cover international, national? Anything cultural? Sports? Medical issues? What is important?

Now take a look at a couple of Fox news broadcasts and one of our local stations. Do you notice a change in tone or selection of topics. Any observed bias? How about the actual anchors? What is their diction like? body language? What demographic do you think they appeal to?

  1. Fox news broadcasts rub me the wrong way, firstly because they are very biased republican, one sided, and the news seems "holey". I get the feeling that there are peices missing from the stories, which adds to the bias factor, (but it could totally be because of my own democrat/republican biases.)
The ancors themselves are always prim and proper, and they throw little "debates" into their castings, loud voices and very serious faces. They are trying very hard to get you to 100% beleive what they're saying. They certainly appeal to the older politically-savvy demographic. I feel like younger kids, college level, if they haven't been brought up in a well-rounded politically active family wouldn't know what's going on. Fox news, I've found, also targets democratic politicians all the way, and sometimes I feel that they go out of their way to idolize the republican members.
